Westlock and Area Family Day Plans!


Friday, February 16:
•    Family Game Night at the Westlock Memorial Hall.  Opens at 5PM.  Concession is available.  Cost is $5 per person


Sunday, February 18:
•    Family Dance and Kid Karaoke Party at the Westlock Legion.  1 – 4PM.  $2 per person.  Concession available


•    Free theatre style supper.  5:30 to 6:30 PM.  Followed by free family movie night.  Showing “All Saints”.  At the Westlock Gospel Chapel


Monday, February 19:
•    Free public skating at the Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre.  10AM – 1PM.  Free hot dogs and free hot chocolate.


•    Free family swim at the Westlock Aquatic Centre.  1 – 5PM


•    Family Fun Tobogganing at Westlock Belvedere Park from 12 Noon to 2:30PM.  Free hot chocolate, hot dogs, and marshmallows for everyone.  Free Crazy Carpet for the first 25 kids!


•    Events at the Pine Valley Resort in Tawtinaw include family snow sculpture competition, with prizes to the top 3 winners, an outdoor BBQ, and regular skiing and tubing hills will be open.  
 


 Event:  Coats for Kids and Families

Details:  Do you have any new or used coats, ski pants, gloves, or toques to donate?  OR do you need a coat, ski pants, gloves, or toques?  You can drop them off or pick them up at the FCSS offices in Westlock!

Event: Caregiver Connection Night

Details: Monthly meeting for family, friends and caregivers of individuals living with mental illness. Families come together to share experience, strength and hope, with education and social networking.

Facilitator/Speaker: Family facilitated support group

Date: Meet every 4th Tuesday of the month

Time: 6:00 pm

Event:  Ripple Connection Support Centre

Details:  The Ripple Connection Support Centre is a non-profit drop-in centre for families and individuals living with mental illness.  They provide caregivers and persons living with mental illness support by promoting life-management skills, education, and social networking.  Some of their programs include their referral services, the daily “Warm Your Heart Lunch,” and soul sharing.

Event:  Alzheimers & Dementia Support Group


Details:  The Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and NWT shares information on the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, practical tips to help you and those with the disease have better quality of life, and answer any questions you may have.


Dates:   First Tuesday of  every month.


Time:  7 – 9PM


Place:  Westlock Continuing Care Center – 2nd Floor Conference Room

Event:  Westlock & Region Pet Food Bank


Details:  A pet food banks has opened up here in Westlock to serve the pets of Westlock, Barrhead, and Morinville.  As they are brand new, they are looking for donations to fill their shelves!  They accept all kinds of pet foods, from dog, ferrets, parrots, and snakes.  Just like a food bank for people, it’s the same rules:  donate non-perishable food items, unopened and unused. They are also now on the lookout for volunteer drivers to do pick-ups and deliveries in the near future.

Event:  Barrhead Drop In Care Partner Support Group


Date and Time:  The third Wednesday of every month, at 7PM. No meeting in December


Time:  7 PM


Place:  Dr. W. R. Keir – Barrhead Continuing Care Centre (5336 59 Ave)
Details:  This new Care Partner Support Group is designed for family members who want to meet others to share experience, to learn new information, to receive peer support and to help each other cope more effectively.  The support group is open to all family members and care partners of someone with Alzheimer’s Disease or related dementias.

Event:  Barrhead Public Library Preschool Programs


Details:  Monday morning at 11AM is Mommy & Me, for toddlers and babies under the age of 2.  They enjoy stories, songs, and rhyming, and having a fun play time.  Wednesdays at 11AM is Time for Tots, where preschoolers enjoy stories, songs, and crafts.  And Fridays at 11AM is Story Time for preschoolers.  Don’t forget, a parent or grandparent must attend with the child.

Event:  Tractor Talk Time


When:  The first Tuesday of every month, starting at 9AM


Where:  The Canadian Tractor Museum in Westlock


Details:
  Head down to the Canadian Tractor Museum for this fascinating new program.  Every month, a special guest speaker will be talking about some of the tractors in the museum’s collection and answering your questions.


Tickets:  No charge for the program, but donations to the museum will always be gratefully accepted.

 Event:  Council Coffee Talk


Date and Time:  February 28 at 5PM at the Charles Godberson Rotary Room in the Barrhead Agreena


Details:  This event is an informal meet and greet with Barrhead Town Council.  Various department heads, the fire chief, and representative from the RCMP will be in attendance.  Snacks, coffee, and juice will be provided.
